No 304: the Airmail

Tuesday, November 17, 2009

Sometimes inspiration comes from the most unlikely places! My favorite cocktail these days has been a particularly delight champagne concoction called the Airmail. The recipe is as follows:

2 ounces Barbancourt 15-year rum
1 ounce honey syrup
3/4 ounce fresh lime juice
1 to 2 ounces chilled Champagne, to taste

Shake rum, honey syrup and fresh lime juice with ice; double strain into a coupe glass. Top with champagne.

Note: To make honey syrup, combine equal parts honey and hot water, then stir until honey is dissolved. Cool before using.

So with my love of this cocktail in mind, a wedding theme was born!
the Airmail
Send handwritten invitations on airmail stationery, using as many vintage stamps as possible. A full-skirted wedding gown and classic tuxedo will outfit the bride and groom, and encourage guests to wear their best "between the wars" ensembles. Serve Airmails, of course, and classic American dishes like beef Wellington. While guests enjoy a vanilla cake with strawberry filling, ask that they leave a letter for the sweethearts on the same airmail stationery in a vintage U.S. Mail Box. Send them home with personal apple and cherry pies tied with kraft ribbon for favors.
